Forty-eight hours ago, the Republicans in this country didn’t give two shits and sand dollar about the fate of Ukraine. To them, it was all a big joke. From quiet to contemptuous, the Republicans poured derision on Joe Biden. Tokyo Rose Tucker added fuel to the fire with commentary and supportive guests of poor Russia’s cause. Commentary later translated into Russian and shown on Russian state TV to illustrate that Americans don’t support Ukraine.
Then as the artillery rounds began falling in civilian neighborhoods and the Russian tanks began to roll in. The Republicans had a revelation. “Hey? This is serious! Why didn’t Joe Biden do something about this sooner?” The Republicans no longer publicly support Vlad Putin, but they won’t give Joe a break either. As if they are saying, “Now look what you made us do!”
“Here’s another fine mess you’ve gotten us into!” With the implication, that if only Joe Biden had done this or that. Vladimir Putin wouldn’t be a murderous thug anymore, hell bent on rebuilding the Soviet bloc. That if only, Neville Chamberlin had given Hitler a good stern talking too, WWII never would have happened.
Even in time of war, the Republicans can’t bring themselves to support their own government. Without adding a left-handed compliment, that this is all somehow Joe Biden’s fault. When this Russian military operation has been planned out years in advance. And their next operation is also already planned out, so save your ticket stubs there will be a drawing at the end.
This has been going on for years, so you might as well blame Bill Clinton. Sure, why not? They blame him for everything else. Clinton did such a poor job when the Soviet Union broke up, that Vladimir Putin wants a do over. Putin is unhappy that the empire and the money are gone. The rise of Fascism in Europe in the 1930s was a direct result of the Treaty of Versailles. The Germans felt that they got handed a raw deal and wanted a do over. And eventually, put someone in charge, who promised he’d get it all back for them.
It’s not the NATO tanks and planes Putin fears, it’s the dollars and Euros that keep him up nights. Largely locked out of many markets due to Russia’s famous corruption. Twump Tower Moscow was going to have one whole floor of apartments for the elites, a playroom palace of sorts. “Of course, your apartment is free Vladimir, don’t be ridiculous. Did you really think I’d come all the way to Moscow to build a tower and not build a free apartment for you?” 27th Floor, corruption, graft, notions and ladies’ fine lingerie.
So, let’s not kid ourselves about the allegiances of Donald Twump. He’s loyal only to himself, as Ivanka (Light Sentence) Twump, prepares to testify before the January 6th committee. “Whatever your question is, I take that second amendment thingy. No, I mean fifth, fifth amendment.” Her brother Erc Twump took the fifth over 500 times, breaking a record once previously held by the legendary Al Capone. Because as Erc’s dad, Donald Twump once famously said, “Only guilty people need to take the fifth!”
Twump would attempt to extort the Ukrainian President because he could. Because it was convenient, and he’d didn’t give a shit about geopolitics. He didn’t give two shits or a sand dollar about Ukraine. Like a sailor out on shore leave, he wanted something very badly and didn’t care what it cost. Especially, if someone else would be forced to pay for it.
So, there you are, a Colonel in the KGB, with a lifelong ambition to rebuild Mother Russia’s good ole days. And your adversary is Donald Twump. How do you like your chances, so far?
Of all the leaders and former leaders, in the entire known world. Only Donald Twump sides with Vladimir Putin. Putin is condemned from pole to pole as a war criminal around the world. But is still whole-heartedly supported by a former American President. What could go wrong?
Is Donald Twump a paid asset of the Russian Government, or just a fawning wanna be? It must be that famous liberal bias, that makes all the countries of the world vote against Putin and Twump. Making things hot for Republicans in the purgatory of the Twump reality. “Go ahead, stick your tongue to the pole. I dare you!” If you love me, you’ll support Putin, like I do!
A bridge too far perhaps. As the videos of the atrocities will arise, and the fuel prices begin to spike. Public opinion will turn dark. The Republicans sing but one song, “Oh, that’s not good enough! Why don’t you cut off Swift, why don’t you go after Putin personally?” The famous general Sun Tzu advised to always leave your enemy with an escape, or they will fight like tigers. After FDR embargoed sales of oil to Japan, the Japanese felt they had no escape, and nothing left to lose, and so bombed Pearl Harbor.
It’s a balancing act, dancing on the head of a thimble. Somewhere between playing nice, and WW-3. You wanna hit em where it hurts, but you don’t want to hit them so hard, where they feel that have nothing left to lose. But the Republicans want to know what Joe Biden is going do about it. Sanctions are no good. Sanctions don’t work! He should have done that months ago! He should do something even more severe. Are you trying to imply, that you want US troops involved? “Oh no, no, never! Nothing like that, I just don’t like what Joe Biden is doing.”
To a person, the intelligence people interviewed, called Vladimir Putin’s speech the other night chilling. Putin was saying that he was going crush Ukraine, and was ready to go to war with anyone who didn’t like it. That is a direct threat to the entire world, unlike any ever spoken by a world leader during my lifetime, even during the Cold War. A nuclear power is saying we are going to do whatever the fuck, we want to do and fuck you, if you don’t like it!
I spent about an hour thinking of all the ways it could all go wrong. If two Russian fighter jets collided near the Polish frontier. An errant missile hits a Polish grade school, or If hackers knocked out Netflix on the East Coast. Because Putin wasn’t the only one making threats. Joe Biden also said, if there were any “accidents” that the Russians could expect a full American response. (Is that good enough for you?) Joe Biden just told the Russians, “Fuck around and find out!”
Not since the Cuban missile crisis or the construction of the Berlin Wall, have we found ourselves eyeball to eyeball with World War Three. Not since September 1st, 1939, has Europe found it’s self-eyeball to eyeball with such a crisis, but the Republicans got jokes. “Why didn’t Joe Biden do something about this sooner, like back in 2016?” After Putin had invaded Crimea, Donald Twump suggested letting Russia back into the G-8, without any penalty. The Republicans should never ever call anyone weak, ever again, without first looking into a mirror.
