Republican Senator Thom Tillis says it’s immoral to back away from a border deal to please a presidential candidate. Immoral that’s a good word for it. Letting bad things happen in the hope that you might gain some advantage from it. Let a situation become a crisis and if a few people get hurt, oh well. Putting on a carnival of horrors at the border just trying to gain an edge during an election year.
Cynically, Republicans have tied aid to Ukraine to the crisis at the border show. Assuming that assisting an ally is just like Amazon. Just order it today and it will be there tomorrow. Leaving allies, we promised to help in the lurch. And if a few thousand people die because a war was prolonged for a year or two for a political advantage, during an election year? Oh well.
Originally, the aid was tied with aid to Israel. And the Republicans can’t say “no” to Israel, especially during an election year. So, the aid to Ukraine was cut out of the package to be used as a bargaining chip. A wedge to add pressure to the Biden Administration. “Your friends are dying; don’t you want to make a border deal yet? Boy, I’d love to pass that aid package today, if someone would just see reason. Immoral, that’s the word.
We have a war in Europe and the sooner that it is over the better off everyone is going to be. Russia is being bled white in men and equipment. While the number of Russians seems inexhaustible, there is a finite number of Ukrainians.
A high-tech WW1 trench warfare situation over miles and miles of open ground. Making infantry assaults as futile as Pickett’s charge. The Ukrainians need missiles to even up the playing field. To keep them waiting while seeking a political advantage at home. Is fundamentally immoral and reprehensible, but this is the Party of Donald Trump. The basket of deplorables and genetic bottom feeders in full bloom.
The tank was first invented to cross the trenches of WW1. The anti-tank rocket and the drone were invented to make sure that didn’t happen. The drones have changed everything. The drones are out there watching and listening. You might not see them out there, but they are there. And they see you!
Russian generals were eliminated after being geolocated by their cell phones. A recent Russian school and conference was interrupted permanently after the time and location of the conference was inadvertently posted on a Russian Telegram channel. Loose lips sink ships indeed.
Russia is a bandit state of oligarchs busy making a rich country poor. Soviet holdovers with deluded dreams of Russian glory. Suppliers of discount weaponry to the third world and terrorist undergrounds everywhere. Wanna guess who makes those missiles for the Houthis? Wanna guess where Hamas buys all their armaments?
To pause weapons deliveries to Ukraine is to offer aid and comfort to Russia. Gee, where have I heard that before? Let’s see if I have this straight, Donald Trump is cowing Republicans away from a border deal but isn’t putting his thumb on the scale with regards to aid for Ukraine? When we last left our story of Donald Trump and Ukraine, the two were on the outs. Ukraine wouldn’t fabricate evidence against Joe Biden, and Trump got mad and withheld military assistance until they did. Same, same?
Trump is an adult, right? He wouldn’t carry any sort of a personal vendetta against Ukraine, right? He’s not known for that sort of childish behavior, right? Especially, when it involves our national security, right? And the security of our allies? But it fits the conservative mantra, “But it’s a lot cheaper to just do nothing.” Let those chips fall where they may.
Watch those hungry eyes in Beijing grow excited with anticipation. Like it or not, this country has commitments and obligations. It’s too serious a matter to let crazy unelected orange Grandpa decide the fate of humanity and the western world out of a fit of pique.
Republican Speaker Mike Penile Euphemism says he’s afraid to get involved in another Iraq. The Truman Doctrine says this country will help any democracy against unprovoked aggression. Unamerican at its heart and immoral at its soul. What an ally we must look like to Ukraine. Presidential extortion and big promises being defaulted on by Republicans trying to score points at home. “Yeah, but when we said we’d help, it wasn’t an election year.”
I somewhat admire the Texas government position of abandoning Federalism when it suits them. Finally admitting that shipping migrants to Martha Vineyard wasn’t working anymore and a new political stunt was required. The irony of the Supreme Court’s opinion shouldn’t be missed. The state of Texas doesn’t have to listen to the Federal government (or the opinions of the Supreme Court) if they don’t want to. Because if the Federal government isn’t in charge, the Federal court isn’t in charge of shit either. “Doah!”
Just another “Do it yourself” January 6th sedition kit. Texas Governor Gregg (Bubba) Abbott says it’s fun for the whole family and just about any idiot can do it! Just add razor wire and stir.
But you know if Texas is that certain that they can do a better job on the border than the Feds. Maybe Joe Biden should let them have their way and pull all the Feds off the border. Just smile and wave as they leave and say, “Best of luck to you! Let us know how it works out for you! If you think you can do it better, we’re just going to leave it with you then.”
Of course, Joe Biden is too adult to play childish sideshow games when people could be hurt. That’s the difference; Republicans don’t care if people get hurt. In fact, they would prefer it! The Republicans are pro-life you know but very selective about how they use it.
Take note; all the crazy talk comes from the Republican House. The same Republican House unable to accomplish much of anything. All of the “That’s a bad idea” and “we aren’t going to do that” comes from the Republicans in the Senate. January 6th never died inside the Republican Party. The war goes on.
“Because there are three classes of intellects: one which comprehends by itself; another which appreciates what others comprehend; and a third which neither comprehends by itself nor by the showing of others; the first is the most excellent, the second is good, the third is useless.” ― Niccolò Machiavelli
