It’s been a bad week at the salt mine all around for Donald Trump. And the hits just keep on coming. A 370-million-dollar judgement here and a 370-million-dollar judgement there and pretty soon, you’re talking about a lot of money. It’s the beginning of the end. The judgements pile up as the accounts drain. As the court’s rulings pile up, as the inevitable comes into full view.
The Trump legal brain trust has decided not to appeal the question of Trump’s immunity to the Supreme Court. If you don’t think you’ll like the answer, it’s best if you don’t ask the question. The precedents are all there, and Trump was in for a shellacking. Like the sinking of the battleship Bismarck, the small damages begin to take a toll, a financial toll. Trump may be an ex-president, but cash is still king.
Republicans wonder if they can both afford to run Trump for President and keep Trump out of the pokie. It’s the last piece of pizza scenario. Republicans wonder if there will be enough to go around and who will leave the table hungry. Down ballot Republicans fear they will be left to starve.
Three more Republican House members have announced their retirement from the crazy house. Young, gifted and gone. The future belongs to the hangers on as the next generation of Republicans hits the road with the eject button. George Santos’s House seat has gone blue, and all recent special elections have also gone blue. A sign of the times?
But why? Why now? Gee, with Trump as the likely nominee. It’s time to sign up and kiss the ring, isn’t it? They smell trouble and want no part of it. The threat of a President coo, coo for Cocoa Puffs is reason enough to abandon ship. They don’t want to be associated with the party standard bearer anymore. Trump / No Trump.
Dividing the Party between Trump haters and the hang around the forts. Dividing the Party between the big lie and the dark future. Matt Gaetz is leaving, and Lauren Boebert is probably leaving. After the collapse of the fraudulent impeachment, Republicans again have egg on their faces. Impeachment leader James Comer has some splainin to do Lucy, involving phony paperwork. Federal documents made up from thin air are an intolerable insult to any American.
With only a closet full of failure, to fall back on it becomes a Party in dissolution. Hopelessly dysfunctional and hopelessly divided by the Trump cult. Either you bow genuflect or hosanna to Trump or you get the fuck out! Like a virus, the Trump cult uses the Republican Party as their host. They live rent free there without caring about living there. They’re Trump squatters, not Republicans. They don’t give a damn about the future of the Republican Party.
Trump not fighting for immunity opens the floodgates to January 6th litigation. From convicted Federal inmates to those who only got their cars towed. All with the same message; “Donald Trump called us here!” Death by a thousand cuts! This is all his fault! Donald Trump complains he can’t campaign because he’s always at the courthouse as Trump campaigns from the courthouse. “I’m the victim! Poor me! Poor me!”
Kamikaze pilots don’t care much about the weather and for Trump this is all or nothing gamble on one roll of the dice. Either Trump wins the White House, or he goes down in flames. So, the risk to Trump of thousands of lawsuits is minimal. You can’t scare Trump with lawsuits. Trump is to lawsuits what Tony the tiger is to Frosted Flakes.
Backseat Republicans fear where Donald Trump in the driver’s seat will take them. Becoming aware of Donald Trump’s suicide mission.
Tucker Carlson returned from frigid Russia only to find icy conditions here. After interviewing and telling the world what great guy Vladimir Putin is, yet another Putin adversary ends up dead. Trump too defends Putin. The end of the 2024 campaign will be the death knell to Donald Trump as 2028 will be too late to save him. Expect bitter recriminations as the Party tries to mend itself post Trump. Where will the cultists all go once their cult leader is gone? Will they stay loyal to the Republican Party or go ahead spin off to an even more racist fascist Party?
Trump encourages Putin to go ahead and attack Europe. That kind of rhetoric might be popular with the Simians and mouth breathers but will further divide the Party with the readers and writers and non-tobacco chewers.
“Where is he taking us? Where will all of this end? How will this all end?” Expect a bumpy ride and hard landing from here on out. Expect a horror show of a Republican Convention. Five nights of Donald Trump live on national Television bitching and complaining, while sycophants try to convince us of Trump’s divine origins. Expect to see a lot of empty seats at the birthday party nobody wants to attend.
Lincoln once said on the Internet; “A house divided against itself can’t stand.” This is clearly that house.
“Now I will tell you the answer to my question. It is this. The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently. We are different from the oligarchies of the past in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just around the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power. Now you begin to understand me.”
