The Unvarnished Truth or Dewey Defeats Truman Again

By David Glenn Cox

I feel like a kid at Christmas only I don’t know whether I’ve been good or not. I’m sick of all the advertisement’s wish books, accusations and acrimony. I’m ready for some certainty. All of the signs look good…but. Signs looking good won’t feed the bulldog.

In Texas, Ted Cruz is predicted to lose. In Colorado, Lauren Boebert is in trouble. In Arizona, Kari Lake is toast. A poll showing Harris in the lead in Iowa has left the polling world in shock! Why? They have women in Iowa, don’t they? The Republican foisted abortion bills are just as unpopular in Iowa as in other places. To paraphrase Bill Clinton, it’s the abortion issue stupid!

What I find shocking are national polls showing Donald Trump in the lead, despite serious public gaffes. USA Today chose not to endorse a candidate this time around, but was quick with “good news, Comrade.” Puerto Ricans have largely forgiven the “Garbage Island” remark. Heck, boys will be boys, huh? How USA Today determined that astounding fact with such amazing speed remains unclear. Could a new chocolate ration be just around the corner?

In North Carolina, early voting is at record levels. Turnout always favors Democrats. Mr. Trump is fighting tooth and nail for the tar heel state. Like the whole race depends on it. Gosh, I remember when they used to talk like that about Virginia. Could Colorado or Nevada go blue? It was once a real question. Arizona going blue was out of the question, but now, it’s not even surprising anymore. Seems like every Presidential election cycle Democrats pick up a new state. Arizona or Georgia or maybe even North Carolina.

President Kennedy said famously in 1960, “The torch has been passed to a new generation born in this century.” Once again, history repeats itself. The electorate is growing younger while the average age for Republicans is growing older. The younger generation is far more accepting of social issues which set Republican’s hair on fire. Republicans are becoming the party of your father’s Oldsmobile. The Old Guard, something to be done away with on general principle as old fashioned.

The least religious generation and the most immune to Marge Tater Greene warnings of biblical calamity. God’s sending earthquakes, eclipses, and time changes because we aren’t faithful enough! That’s a big NO SALE to the young and the restless. They want good schools for their kids and homes they can afford, and Republicans offer them book banning’s, abortion bans and killer immigrants. Got any plans for the future? Get rid of them immigrants and take the taxes off of my Social Security!

A Republican Party completely mired in a protracted civil war. The Republican nominee did recently recommend putting a fellow Republican in front of a firing squad. Does that remark sound helpful to you? But when other Republicans line up in cargos to endorse the Democratic nominee. It’s only logical to assume that this political division runs through the Republican electorate to some degree at large, doesn’t it?

I was terrible at math in High School. But if Donald Trump didn’t get enough votes to win the election last time around and the Party is even more divided today. I see a loser. I don’t see one scrap of positive good news for the Trump campaign, except maybe it’s almost mercifully over.

Never in recent memory has one candidate been so widely endorsed, while the other has been so universally denounced. In Georgia, polling shows Trump up +2. At the same time, support in the African American community is down to 9% for Trump and at 87% for Kamala Harris. Voting in Atlanta’s African American neighborhoods is reported as extremely heavy. Trump +2? Really? Harris is within striking distance in Florida! Donald Trump shouldn’t be campaigning in the South this close to election day. This is supposed to be a safe territory, but somehow, it’s not. Republicans are on the outs with Blacks, Women, Gays, Librarians. Ukrainians and Puerto Ricans and yet somehow, they tell us the election is still close. But the math is inflexible.

There are not enough uneducated angry White men to make up the difference. Trump is getting killed by women, especially older women. But somehow mysteriously the race remains close. 100,000 new voters in Pennsylvania 59% women, but it’s so close!

The Iowa poll exposed the political truth so long sequestered from the public. The Iowa poll was based in Iowa, not in New York or Washington interpreting the raw data. Nobody knows you like the home folks do.

A US Elections poll shows Trump at 50.95 in Georgia with Kamala Harris at 49.1%. So, pollsters are predicting Kamala Harris as the First African American female candidate for President will perform only slightly better in Georgia than Joe Biden did at 48.9? I find that difficult to believe. Wait a minute! Joe Biden won Georgia in 2020, didn’t he? So, the  pollsters are predicting Kamala Harris will do slightly better than Joe Biden did, but still lose?

In Donald Trump’s last campaign in 2020, Mr. Trump was the incumbent President. He’s not an incumbent this time around but somehow pollsters predict Trump will win the election. Despite his breakdowns and mental lapses Donald Trump will stunningly outperform 2020, surprise everybody and win the election! Despite Kamala Harris’s immense popularity and enthusiasm. A grumpy old delusional man will triumph on Election day.

If Donald Trump doesn’t win North Carolina, it’s all over no matter what the pollsters say. If Donald Trump is still campaigning in North Carolina, it means he’s worried he might lose North Carolina. If the poll in Iowa is correct, it is way past all over. It boggles the mind, how Trump can go from gaffe to fail to screw up, and yet the pollsters keep telling us it’s close. We shall soon see. I guess!

Future News; “Gosh, somehow I guess all our projections were all wrong! In a stunning surprise upset!”
