The Era of Bad Feelings

By David Glenn Cox

The resistance begins, New Mexico Governor refuses to play the Mass Deportation game. Says, it’s bad for families and the economy. As the ripples expand, the Puerto Rician independence party finds sudden new strength. Gee, such gratitude. Paper towels don’t grow on trees, you know. What has changed to promote this sudden burst of nationalism?

Just the beginning of secondary and thridary problems created through incompetence, zeal and guile. The King talks about selling off the Post Office. Because he hadn’t made any dire threats lately. The Post Office is losing money, so let’s sell it off to those who wait anxiously in line to purchase it. If you think you’ve seen junk mail before, wait until the gloves come off.

I used to ship product all over the United States. Only the Post Office goes everywhere. If you’re sending something to a ranch in Montana or a farm in North Dakota, the commercial carriers ain’t going that way for one package. So, they take it to the hub and put it in the mail. The Post Office has an obligation to deliver to you wherever because it’s yours. Private carriers demand big bucks for guaranteed delivery. Yours, versus Not yours!

The ACLU is telling states to build a firewall to defend freedom. Four years of fights and subpoenas, law suits, court cases, appeals and cases kicked upstairs to the Extreme Court. Settling nothing, fixing nothing and building nothing, building nothing but animosity. The Era of Bad Feelings! Wow! What a way to start a honeymoon period! Kick ‘em in the nuts right off, so they know you’re serious.

Let’s start a whole new government office dedicated solely to eliminating government offices, duplication and waste. Like champagne to celebrate sobriety or condoms for virginity. Let’s add a bunch of people to the payroll to decide who we can get rid of. We can have sub committees and commission studies! Quickly becoming of that which they were hired to destroy. Can you study a bureaucracy without succumbing to the bureaucracy? Without becoming a part of the bureaucracy?

During the Kennedy Administration there were competing missile programs. Some had to be canceled, but there was an election coming. Decisions were tempered by voting districts. So, if you announce from the rooftops. You’re going after the Post Office, the Department of Education and out to remove whole departments with mass deportations. What sort of cooperation should the new Administration expect?

If you’re proposing calling out the National Guard to deport crying women and screaming kids? What do you suppose will happen to National Guard recruitment? The ripples expand, suddenly a recruitment problem and all the experienced officers leaving. Democratic Governors refusing to cooperate and Republican Governors anxious to volunteer their guard units. What will happen to public opinion once they start to make those mass arrests? Screaming women and crying children in a Warsaw Ghetto. Dragged out of bed kicking and screaming.

The King can back off on a lot of his campaign promises, but the Mass Deportations were front and center. It’s important to break the will of the average American to resist. If they can safely deport thousands of illegals at gunpoint using the army what do think your civil rights amount to? First, they came for the Illegals…

What will happen to the economy when these mass arrests are in the headlines? When shifts go unworked? Crops go unpicked and rent goes unpaid. Those arrested have landlords you know, and those landlords are in for big trouble as their tenants suddenly wing their way home. What will your lease be worth then?

Sure, why not? You can rip millions of workers from the economy without any negative effects. But it is hard to accomplish much without any workers. To obtain new workers the employers will probably have to raise wages and won’t like doing that very much. It’s hard to control grocery prices when you deport workers. Hard to control inflation much when you’re busy deporting workers. When overnight there are hundreds of apartments on the market available for rent.

And the economy says what? Tariffs after forty years of Free Trade? What could possibly go wrong with that strategy? The economy will just quietly ingest the massive tariffs and it won’t affect car sales the least little bit! Bankers might want to reevaluate financing an asset which depreciates faster than it can be paid off financing government tariffs for seven years. It’ll be fine. You can always kick the shit out of the economy and expect good results.

At war with the government. At war with state governors. At war with industry. At war with the National Guard and the Defense Department. At war with the Post Office. At war with the FBI and at war with migrants. At war with everyone and everyone at war with them.

Look deeply into the crystal ball! Calling on all of your concentrated powers of political prognostication, what do you foresee for the future? Ponder thoughtfully on the character and executive abilities of each of the Cabinet aspirants. What do you see? Chaos? The fevered dreams of vulgar ambitions and criminal perversions. Led by a mad King with the attention span of a gnat and the memory of a sheetrock wall.

Give a narcissist unlimited power and what do you expect will happen? Revenge and pettiness let’s clog up the toilets with a bunch of useless shit. “How come there is nobody I’ve ever heard of on Fox News anymore?” Because you’ve hired them all sir. “Oh, right.”

Their goal is no less than to remake the world and America’s place in it. What happens when you try and fly over a mountain top but can’t get high enough? If you don’t like America as the world’s policeman, who would you suggest replacing us? Wanting the privileges of power without the responsibility or expense. Look into the crystal ball again, how will that world strategy work out? America as the uncooperative bully and cock of the walk. Demanding trade concessions while offering none.

Because we say so, that’s why.

Every civilization carries the seeds of its own destruction, and the same cycle shows in them all. The Republic is born, flourishes, decays into plutocracy, and is captured by the shoemaker whom the mercenaries and millionaires make into a king. The people invent their oppressors, and the oppressors serve the function for which they are invented. – Mark Twain
