“This is not the beginning of the end, but it is perhaps the end of the beginning.” – Winston S. Churchill
I hate to say I told you so, but I told you so. I take no pleasure in being correct. It isn’t a sign of intelligence or insight, only experience and common sense. You can only push so hard until people begin to push back. It is a twisted tale of madness and ego, following a repetitive tortured trail of remorseless failures.
I’ll give you another prediction. Ernst Rohm, I mean Elon Musk, had better shut his mouth and mind his P’s and Q’s or he could have a bad accident some dark night. After the Ukrainians successfully destroyed about 30% of the Russian bomber fleet. The head of the Russian Air Force mysteriously fell from a window to his death. Details are vague as to whether the window was open at the time or not. This is the way all dictatorships operate.
Fortunately for Donald Trump the American media is sufficiently cowed. Up, could now be reported as down, and black could be reported as white. If the media weren’t so cowed, you would hear the stories of failure upon failure, upon fiasco and scandal. Donald Trump was going to end the war in Ukraine in one day or one week. Or just forget about it, wash his hands and walk away. The Trump Administration said, Under no certain circumstances would Kilmar Abrego Garcia ever be returning to the United States. No way! Never! Not going to happen, ever, ever! The man admittedly deported by mistake for his tattoos is reimported, excuse the pun here, on Trumped up charges.
Up is now down. Now, it is said, the Trump Administration actually WANTED his return all along, after insisting for months that they didn’t. A free media might point that out to you. Now, it was the Trump Administration’s own plan to return him. The contrived media is filled with stories all saying exactly the same things. “While the 50% increase on tariffs on steel and aluminum, could be detrimental to the economy. It could also be really good for the economy too! In the same way a deadly plague is good for the funeral industry.
Mass deportations are expensive and could add billions of dollars to the budget deficit. Fighting with Universities could/will create a brain drain and a loss of science and innovation. But dictatorships have always gone after the intellectuals. It’s in the dictatorship 101 manual. Dictatorship for Dummies page one. Donald Trump openly accepts graft in the form of second hand airliners. The media questions the criminality, before looking the other way. Moving on to more the important stories such as public trials of celebrities. Always falling back on the one true excuse. It’s all Joe Biden’s fault. This is all Goldstein’s fault! Goldstein did it! Goldstein is responsible! Damn that Goldstein!
The Trump Administration has so skillfully negotiated with the Houthis, the media was forced to stop reporting about them. The Trump Administration first recognized the new government in Syria before distancing themselves and ignoring them. The disgraceful situation in Gaza was a part of the dictator’s big plans for Real Estate redevelopment. Casinos and shopping centers, golf courses and all exclusively for the wealthy. Planning to leave behind a small token staff of peasants, maids, lawnmowers and caddies.
Back in 1942, the Nazis had big plans to redevelop the Soviet Union. Planning to leave behind a small token staff of peasants, maids, lawnmowers and caddies. Russia was to be a province of the new Germany. Much like Greenland or our 51st state Canada. Whatever happened to all that? That all seemed to be big news at the time and now, is largely forgotten. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer following the Tony Blair model, comes a slurping at the heels of the Great Dictator. Wanting to be the first to sign a trade deal but ended up being the only one to sign a trade deal, and now looking foolish for doing so. Remember? Husker do? The Administration was going to negotiate 195 new trade deals in just 90 days. One down and 194 to go. The story has long since been whitewashed from the headlines.
The trade policy of the United States is in tattered ruins. A patchwork of deadlines, threats and exceptions. A loosely woven policy of, if they don’t or if they do. They will either be petted or punished by the hand of the Great Dictator. A 25% tariff on imported cars! A 50% tariff on the steel and aluminum used to build domestic cars! If at first you don’t succeed, tell the media to stop talking about it.
The Trump Administration was going to build a space station around the moon, and then off to Mars we go! But first! Let’s cut the NASA budget by 50%. Shhh, don’t tell anyone. The Great Dictator calls out the National Guard in California, despite the mayor and the Governor’s wishes. Sort of an unprecedented act. I’m sure the media will get around to reporting that to you, after they finish covering the celebrity trials, escaped Zebras and air crashes. It’s never ever happened in over a hundred years.
But the Great Dictator wants to create a show! (Doesn’t he always?)A spectacle for the penny stinkers and weed benders. There he is! The criminal Montag! Get him before he escapes! The Great Dictator wants to demonize the mayor and governor as not doing their jobs and only HE can save the day! Look! Up in the sky! It’s a turd! It’s a shame! Here he comes to save the day! Only he could do that! It’s always a sign of a real successful Administration calling out the military to keep order on the streets! The Trump Administration is like a surgeon who trumpets their successes and buries their failures.
In the shallow halls of Congress, the Republicans cry. “We’re not eliminating healthcare for eleven or twelve million Americans. We’re just cutting fraud , waste and abuse!” But not mentioned or reported is; “And we’re giving it all away to billionaires!” Which means, Jobs, jobs, jobs for the yachting and private jet community! Only the numbers don’t add up! The numbers don’t even sort of back them up.
Lost in the footnotes of the phony Congressional Budget Office report is this caveat. The legislation will add 2.4 trillion dollars to the deficit. But! Here’s the unreported part. That number could soar from between 3 to 5 trillion dollars, if temporary tax cuts are made permanent. Guess what Donald Trump wants to make permanent? Guess which number the media report and which number they don’t. Should I tell you, when nobody else will? The problem with owning a pretty poodle is sometimes they shit on the rug.
“Cram them full of non-combustible data, chock them so damned full of ‘facts’ they feel stuffed, but absolutely ‘brilliant’ with information. Then they’ll feel they’re thinking, they’ll get a sense of motion without moving. And they’ll be happy, because facts of that sort don’t change. Don’t give them any slippery stuff like philosophy or sociology to tie things up with. That way lies melancholy.”
― Ray Bradbury
“There is no such thing as public opinion. There is only published opinion.”
