Donald Trump’s Theater of the Absurd

By David Glenn Cox

You just can’t sleep in. No sir! Not with the Trump regime in power. You must rise early, sign in to your computer and type in “Trump.” Spinning the wheel of fortune. Where are we going today, Mister Peabody? What’s Uncle Donny got up on the board for us today? Killing drug dealers with bombs or raiding car factories? Threatening third world countries? Putting troops in the street of the Capital and threatening social norms? Never a dull moment! And always with the dark undertone of knowing “This is actually worse than it looks.”

We see milestones and historical sign posts. Glorification of the military and connecting the leader with the military is a founding hallmark of Fascism. The cult of personality. The Nazis had the Blood Oath. You held a corner of the flag and swore allegiance not to the government or the constitution, but to Adolph Hitler directly. A slight, but significant difference.

The President should honor and praise the military, but he shouldn’t wallow in it with military parades, flyovers and swearing in the recruits. That’s ah, what’s the word? Creepy! That’s creepy holding the flag and swearing allegiance to the king kind of stuff. And here to swear you in! His own personal self as a special guest swear er in er is the king of the world himself! (Canned cheers, fading after ten seconds)

It makes me wonder. Is this like political theater? They present Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Presidency. And they think it is going really well. But it’s not going well at all. They are in so deep they can’t see out and see the true public response. They learned nothing from Trump’s military parade in Washington where the public couldn’t have cared less. The people were more excited by the road closings than by the parade. And the administration learned nothing from that experience.

It is highly inappropriate for the king to swear in recruits as the recruits swear an oath to the Office of the President, not the President in office. It’s a creap show, using the military and the recruits as  stage props and the king as the star of the show! All hail Caesar! “I’m ready for my closeup now, Mr. DeVille!” Donald Trump’s “Theater of the Absurd.” The draft dodger turned chicken hawk warlord. But I ask you. Are these the actions one would take when things are going well? Or are they trying bigly to change the subject with some of the old “God and Country” stuff. Harkening back to the earlier times when Trump rallies were about spectacle racism and herd behavior. At Pepperidge farm, we remember when presidents were sane. Pepperidge farm remembers!

Just wave the flag and have the President swear them in. He likes doing stuff like that. Pageants and parades. Just to remind the Volk of what a great guy our rapist pedophile thieving, corrupt authoritarian mafia strong man really is. But forget all that! See: flag waving! Troops marching! Drug dealers exploding. When I snap my fingers and count to three, you will wake up and feel refreshed and forget everything! (Flag waving makes me feel good. How about you?)

The Pentagon/administration released a video of blowing up a small boat with all hands-on board. They thought the public would approve. Otherwise, they never would have released it. But the public answered instead. “You’re just blowing people up now and killing them?” And just like that, the story crawled back into its shell and the video went away. Then because they were losing the public opinion battle. The administration announces with fanfare and certainty it was a drug boat from a known terrorist organization! Why didn’t they say that the first time around is unclear? Story go bye, bye now. See: We were right all along! When the public is in doubt, call the dead men terrorists. That always works!

The administration is caught in a cognitive dissonance. The tactics and techniques which brought them to power are no longer working with the public. They thought releasing a video of killing people would “help” them in the public’s eyes. And now, they don’t understand why it’s not working anymore. So, they fall back on the old bread and butter! “God Bless Vespucci land!”

But the Gestapo raid of the Hyundai plant shows us something new. ICE raiding Taco stands, and Home Depot parking lots just wasn’t getting the job done. Industrial scale raids are the answer! Plant managers and Hyundai officials were shocked. “Illegals working here? We cut ties with that sub-contractor more than twenty minutes ago!” A government secret police agency leaning on a corporation directly! And if you’re late with your payment again, we’ll be back!

What is going to happen to all the ICE secret policemen once the bulk of the migrants have been rounded up, captured and deported to Africa? There is, after all, a finite number. You have this secret police agency accountable to who? Hiring and gearing up for a generational twilight struggle. Who will they arrest once all the migrants have gone away? Will they disband the organization and hold annual reunions? Or will they hunt down new criminals in the King’s name? Hunting down terrorists and drug dealers in small boats. Maybe someone like you? Blam! Justice is served.

A Gestapo, once formed and set up, will be harder to get rid of than it was to create. These things take on a life of their own after a while. An army of rough obliging men with guns won’t ever go to waste in a burgeoning Fascist state.

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?… The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin’s thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If…if…We didn’t love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation…. We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.” ― Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn
