Sticks and stones can break my bones, but names can never hurt me. The big orange fuhrer struggles at his childish name calling. Thrashing about after calling Bernie a Communist. Bernie Sanders answers by winning the Iowa Caucuses and the New Hampshire primary. What’s that big mouth? What else have you got to say? Crickets, as Bernie’s lead in the polls grows as America coalesces around his candidacy. Like we were looking for something that was in front us the whole time. “Communist!” That’s it, that’s all the big Cheeto’s got, calling a thirty-year member of the United States Congress a Communist.
And, and, and he’s a Communist! It’s a long way to November big mouth and you’re going to have to do a lot better than that. As a child my father took a job in Montgomery, Alabama. And I remember bloody Sunday and I remember the march from Selma to Montgomery. My dad loaded us up in his big Chrysler and took us up highway 80 towards Selma. For a brief second I saw Martin Luther King and it was one of those images that remains etched in my brain but what did I know? I was just a little kid whizzing by on a highway, but Bernie marched with Dr. King.
Let me play antique grandpa here for a minute. You youngsters with your rock and roll music and your skateboards. If you were a white person supporting the civil rights movement back in the day, it wasn’t always popular, you’d get called names like n*gger lover. I want to be fair about this and clear, it wasn’t just in the south. It was in Chicago and Cleveland and Boston, New York and Los Angeles. White people were murdered for supporting the civil rights movement. They got their tires slashed and were beaten up; this wasn’t just something to do on a slow sunny Saturday. In many ways it was a revolutionary act, throwing down the gauntlet against injustice…for someone else.
Remember, it wasn’t just other white people you had to worry about it was also the police. If your landlord found out, you might be asked to leave. They didn’t just bomb the church in Birmingham they bombed lots of places. As a teen the Black Panthers were selling Mao’s Red Book on the street corner in the loop in Chicago and I bought a copy…trying to impress a girl. That’s my revolutionary act but marching with Martin Luther King? That’s something hard to quantify today because those times had a rougher edge to them. The Freedom Riders were beaten in the streets as the police and populace just watched. Once you crossed that Rubicon there was no turning back and being called names might the least of your troubles.
In 1940, France had fallen to the Nazi’s. The British Army was trapped on the beaches of Normandy and all hope seemed lost. On that very day Winston Churchill took office as Prime Minister. Fun huh? You’ve been warning about the Nazis for a decade and now as the roof falls in and you get the job to save your country. Churchill wrote, “I felt as if I were walking with destiny, and that all my past life had been but a preparation for this hour and for this trial… I thought I knew a good deal about it all, I was sure I should not fail.” The historical parallels are striking both men fighting Fascism and both men fighting to save their country.
One more Churchill quote and I’ll leave you alone,” Arm yourselves, and be ye men of valour, and be in readiness for the conflict; for it is better for us to perish in battle than to look upon the outrage of our nation and our altars. As the will of God is in Heaven, even so let it be.”
History doesn’t repeat itself it rhymes drawing parallels. A man with a long record of political action and fighting injustice opposing a corrupt criminal tyrant. Our opponents have no panzers or Stukas they are armed with ball point pens and bank notes firing volleys of propaganda to their gibbering drooling, simian masses. But that’s it, that is all they have is name calling. The orange orangutan might look pretty tough from inside the house but out in the street, he’s not so tough.
The orange ape lashes out because it is angry. He’s been impeached and tried but not convicted and not cleared. It becomes more shrill as reality sets in like water dripping. He seeks vengeance against his accusers looking backwards in the rear-view mirror instead of forward. The game is up, and he knows it. He is in the fuhrer bunker now as the army of American liberation approaches and come November…he will be defeated. In actual fact Fascism, in the end, always defeats itself. Corruption upon corruption can only breed corruption. An Inbred mongoloid system of beliefs based of fantasy, hate and superstition. It cannot grow stronger only weaker.
We are not so poorly armed as we might think. Examine the shifting landscape of the past two weeks. Corporate media tries to feed us Biden, but the crowd calls for Bernie. They’ve tried to ignore him but can no longer ignore him. Firing salvos of hyperbole and fear about executions in Central Park. The water has been thrown on the witch and she is melting away.
For over three years we have witnessed only the worst of America and Americans and now we are about to see the best of America and Americans. Billionaires throwing their money on the fire trying to convince us, but the crowd wants Bernie because Bernie doesn’t want their money. Go buy a new yacht or maybe an Island in the Caribbean. Plan your retirement there’s an army coming led by a man not afraid of name calling. A man who has put himself on the line in the name of justice and over throwing oppression before. A man named Bernie Sanders.
