It is all getting so hard to believe anymore. The nonstop nonsense and the drum beat of delirium. As President Coo Coo for Coco puffs decries mail in voting he requests his own mail in ballot. In the greatest economic crisis soon to be ever Mitchell McConnell adjourns the Senate for a month of well needed rest. Left unanswered is the question of the day; is the Republican Party playing a null hand? Is their plan to just let the sky fall. Just let tens of millions of Americans lose their homes lose their lives and futures. Just let the banks take it up the backside. Just let the cities and states bankrupt and just let America burn?
The government admits to nearly seventeen million unemployed, but that’s a pigeonhole filled with pigeon it doesn’t include graduating students or people leaving the military. It doesn’t count spouses entering the workforce trying to plug the hole. It doesn’t include gig workers or Uber drivers. The figures count only the direct impact, not the ripples they cause. Chop it up swirl it around add caveats and serve 2 + 2 = 5 Winston.
History has recorded and lost the meaning of what FDR was saying, “the only thing we have to fear.” History has turned this into a meaningless soundbite. But fear was the national mood. The bonus marchers had been put to the torch in Washington. There were riots in major cities, and Americans were literally starving to death. Commodity prices fell until crops weren’t worth harvesting because they had no customers with money to buy.
Imagine any other crisis, imagine a super hurricane devastates South Florida or Isis destroys the world’s largest truck stop in Iowa and Mitch McConnell adjourns the Senate for a month. “I’d like to help you folks, but I’ve got reservations for one of those exclusive places only rich people know about. I’ll see you in September…we’ll talk then.” Imagine you call the fire department and they tell you, “We’re on our break.” When the going gets tough, the tough get going, “So, we’ll be seeing ya. Talk to you when we get back!”
The surrealism of it all like sitting next to Kafka on a bus and Charles Darwin is holding a flyswatter. It boggles the mind, “Defend the Alamo to the last man! I’ll be back in a month!” Damn the torpedoes I’m on vacation! “Gave proof through the night that the guy who puts up the flag was on vacation!” You can’t do that. You can’t take the money and the prestige and in a time of crisis just walk away. “Our plan is to do nothing! At a great savings to the taxpayer!” Because it’s all about the money. You’ve gotten way too expensive to keep and so we Republicans have developed a plan. We call it the go home and pretend you don’t exist plan.
Besides if they stay in Washington, someone might ask us to support Coo Coo for Coco Puffs latest verbal belch. Take heart they aren’t just running from us but from the Trump crime machine as well. They awake in a cold sweat…if this ever gets out. The NRA, the Russians, the Republicans and the NRA and the Russians. Trump and the Russians, Trump and the Russians, Trump and the Russians! The Republicans have their disorder out of order. You’re supposed to flee from the Capitol after it is in flames and not before.
World War Two was amortized over thirty years no one was worried about busting the budget. “Fight Germany and Japan at the same time? That is too expensive! I propose we adjourn for a month to think about it. Besides isn’t this just Hawaii’s problem? None of these patriotic Republicans worried about spending trillions for wars of aggrandizement in Iraq and Afghanistan. Show the world the bully still swings a mean stick. You love that flag but don’t give a shit about the people that flag represents.
“A mob is coming here in six months to hang the other ninety-five of you damned scoundrels, and I’m undecided whether to stick here with you or go out and lead them.” – Huey Long
Leaving town like a thief in the night or a Republican Senator, but I repeat myself. An abdication of responsibility running from the firing line a yellow streak down their backs. Abandoning millions of Americans for ideological reasons, you don’t mind being homeless if there is a principle involved, do you? Inflicting wanton cruelty on the American people, we the people. That to me is more than just a dispute about money. That is a dispute despots have with citizenry. It is not your money it is our money and if you think we will be ignored and starve quietly living like bears outdoors in the forest you are wrong again.
They will couch their objections with philosophical eruptions, but the fact remains the first child put outdoors is put out because of Republican cowardice. Because of Republican abdication of responsibility. Unamerican ugly American despicable creatures willing to overthrow the standards of decent behavior for the tawdry excuse. “We think if we give you $600 extra you won’t go back to work like a good droid. You’re all fat and lazy and don’t want to work anyway, yep, the truth comes out in the end.
History is a science of logical conclusions if you make conditions similar to the Great Depression of 29 you will get similar results. There will be riots and social upheaval when you mock the poor you taunt those with nothing to lose daring them to do something about it.
“Who then shall unravel all these subtle combinations? Who shall trace the exact dividing line that marks off one form of extremism from its opposite? It can be done only by a love of country and a love of truth. Kings and knaves will always try to destroy this love, for they shun reason and truth like the plague. ― Maximilien de Robespierre
