Bernie Sanders said, “It is a dangerous time in America.” He asked Americans to be prepared for dangerous events surrounding the election. Sanders like all politicians can spread it on with a broad brush but Sanders message was more pleading to be prepared. Trump has threatened not to respect the outcome of the election. Even more outrageous than it is un-American. Mr. Trump is putting on display contempt for the law and proof that he is a lawless illegitimate office holder. Through word and deed Mr. Trump has shown contempt for the law and contempt for the constitution. This isn’t a difference of opinion this is criminal behavior.
The supposed leader of the free world announces to the world that he might not accept the outcome of an election is a declaration of war. Threats to defund so called “Anarchist” cities are an act of war. That’s not normal behavior. That’s not the way things are done in America, but this is thug life. The death of Ruth Bader-Ginsberg is gasoline on a brush fire. The blatant Republican hypocrisy on the issue illustrates to the public that the Republicans don’t give a good god damn what the American public thinks. Forty-five days until a national election and they don’t care what you think. This isn’t a difference of opinion this is criminal behavior.
A lawless criminal in the White House with a solid 6-3 majority in a rubber stamp court and it is Authoritarianism, as you like it. The speed necessary to ram it through quick not unlike Hitler’s Enabling Acts. The keys to the kingdom, now I am the people. A Federal Court Judge issued a nationwide injunction against the USPS and Louis DeJoy directly criticizing DeJoy for intentionally slowing the mail to influence an election. That’s not a difference of opinion that is a criminal charge.
Every President is allowed a wide latitude on political philosophy and the operation of his administration. But no President is allowed to change the form of government we live under. White House liaisons to the various agencies will now report to the White House and not to their respective agency. “You work for me now, got it? When I say jump you say, how high?” Here is the kicker in all of this unless you are trying to hide nefarious activities you have no need to chloroform the liaisons. The door slowly closes as they kiss Michael Corleone’s ring.
Rust never sleeps and criminals like water miss nothing. Once the fix is in and the regulatory agencies are silenced with the court in his back-pocket Mr. Trump can pull out a cash register and begin to monetize America. “So, I understand you want to dump toxic waste into the river, but it is against the law. Well, it’s two million dollars against the law. Pay the cashier on your way out.” But shit runs uphill too when the courts are of the kangaroo variety with dollars signs and decimal points in rulings. Maybe your stock portfolio isn’t really worth what they say it is. You told them not to invest your money in risky ventures, but they did it anyway. The trap they lay for others they are caught in themselves.
When no one has to follow the rules, it’s not safe to play unless there’s no other way to play it. Better to give to the campaign of your choice lest some wayward prosecutor should bring a case against you. “That’s a real nice business you got there. Be a shame if something bad happened to it.” Tic toc.
Bernie is right, you best clear your calendars because you are about to witness something special. Either a nation coming together or a nation coming apart. With his statement about not respecting the outcome of the lection Trump cuts himself with his own sword delegitimizing his own election. Destroying the institution which brought him to power behind him.
There is an irony that those who vote in Fascism vote themselves from power. Judges become clerks and Senators become order takers. There is no need for the Reichstag to meet once the Fuhrer is in power. The President proposes and Congress does as it is told is. The blight takes hold as by wide margin voters said they would avoid any Covid-19 serum that Trump endorsed. That’s not normal there is something terribly abhorrent in that. The people by a wide margin don’t trust the President and by a wide margin the President does not care.
The orange one spins his fables for an audience of one. The Republican Party spent millions on a convention without a platform. That’s not normal, but if dealing with the vagaries and incompetence of Trump appointees it could take years to wrestle out a coherent document with realistic expectations. So, the Party Platform is whatever Trump thinks at the moment, subject to change in any following moment.
A joke to lighten the mood. Knock Knock, “Who is there?” Out of money! “Out of money who?” Donald Trump, that’s who. But here’s the joke, the campaign stands around like fat kids with their hands in their pockets cookie crumbs on their shirts swearing they don’t know where all the cookies went. A billion dollars disappeared up in smoke and up someone’s nose. But that’s how we roll in the Trump campaign it is only money we can always get more. We have friends. Friends who might need some favors at some later date with a tax problem.
“To a man born without conscience, a soul-stricken man must seem ridiculous. To a criminal, honesty is foolish. You must not forget that a monster is only a variation, and that to a monster the norm is monstrous.”
― John Steinbeck,
This is a dangerous time in America.
