Ron DeSantis says Russia’s invasion, and terror bombing of Ukraine is just a border dispute. The Ukrainians are sharp as a tack and quickly reply, “Why not climb aboard a big ole airplane Bubba? And come see for yourself.” Brilliant if Ronnie doesn’t visit, he’s chicken hawk. If he does, (but he won’t) It will be harder for him to maintain his position. Remember Ronnie; Michael Dukakis once drove a tank and it ruined him.
Ronnie Reich’s Fuhrer is a tough guy. Mister tough guy, really good at fighting defenseless school teachers and attacking powerless library books with the full power of the state. But not so anxious to go see where the fast bullets fly himself. Where women and children take shelter in basements which offer little actual protection. Where children are raped, and hostages are executed with their hands tied behind their backs.
Ukrainians struggling to stay warm and alive without power in winter and trying to raise their children in a war zone.
Oh yes, Ronnie is the great pretender. And he will break his teeth on the world stage by exposing his naivety, inexperience, and ignorance. Ronnie is trying to push a conservative meme that might sound good in small rooms but will doom Ronnie on the grand stage. It’s too much money! Freedom, principles, and democracy means nothing, if it’s gonna get expensive.
Commitments to friends and allies? Not if it’s going to cost us money.
Ronnie is blowing it with both hands. He’s supposed to be running for President, not Treasury Secretary. And at this point in the campaign, it costs him nothing to be supportive of allies. But Ronnie is a contrary and an iconoclast. He’s out break glass and break up the china shop with his bull rhetoric. Attempting to appeal to the low IQ Republican voter with fear mongering over cost.
Huey Long once lamented, that the state was debt long before I came along. And the state will still be in debt long after I’m gone. “It’s not the taxes you pay, it’s what you get for your money!” The old debt gambit, the Republican’s fought against Long spending money for a medical school at LSU. Too expensive, they said. We can’t afford it, they said. Especially, when all we get in return are trained doctors.
What do we get supporting Ukraine? International law, decency, stability and respect. In 1939, what did Roosevelt or the United States get by supporting Great Britain? “Keep our boys out of another European War!” they cried. To those whom much is given much is expected. Ronnie is a Republican free booter wanting the perks of a world leadership without any of the responsibilities.
It is already in the cards that Belarus will be absorbed by Russia in another preplanned border dispute. Next on the list is Moldova which is in the works right now. And what happens after that? That depends on who is elected the next President of the United States. A quick glance at Wikipedia will give you the full list of Russian aggression. Perhaps, if we ignore Putin, his success will deter him from further aggression.
After all, we only fought two world wars after ignoring aggression. Our luck is bound to change eventually.
Russia attacked Ukraine after subversion had failed. This war has been going on a for near a decade. After Russia unilaterally seized Crimea. The ultimate irony and hypocrisy are the Republicans answering. “Well, Crimea was once a part Russia!” Yes, and Florida was once a part of Spain! Texas was once a part of Mexico and Mexico once belonged to France. It’s a false argument as there is not one acre of ground on the entire planet in possession of its rightful owner.
Remember in 2019, when Trump abandoned our bases in Syria, which were quickly occupied by Russia. Russia was there to support a brutal dictator. The US was there to keep the Civil War from escalating. But Trump thought the cost was too high and so gave Russia a cheap victory. What does history teach us about giving aggressors cheap victories?
A gentleman told me, “We are spending billions in Ukraine, when we can’t even take care of our own veterans!” My response was, “Are you so anxious to make more veterans?” A Russian victory increases that probability. During the Apollo missions to the moon the Republicans cried, “it’s too expensive! We have poor people to take care of.” Lo and behold we stopped going to the moon and yet, still have the poor people.
The greatest scientific and technological advance ever achieved by man in human history stifled over the cost. Today plans are afoot to return to the moon at only twenty or thirty times the cost of Apollo missions. All based on the technology purchased at great expense in the 1960s. Boy, we must have saved a fortune by now!
Trump wanted to abandon NATO because? It was too expensive. An organization built by world leaders who had suffered through two world wars and tens of millions of casualties for the cost of ignoring aggression. To paraphrase Churchill, sacrificing allies in the hopes that the crocodile will eat us last. What do we get for the cost of NATO? Just peace and stability in Europe, allies, friends, and customers, that’s all.
The other day two Russian fighter jets knocked down an unarmed American predator drone flying in international airspace over the Black Sea. Do you know what’s that’s called Ronnie? That’s called unprovoked aggression or air piracy. Do you understand why the Russian did that Reich’s Fuhrer? Why the Russians attacked an unarmed American Air Force aircraft?
The Russian jets first tried to crash the drone by using their backwash to knock it down. When that failed, they tried dumping jet fuel on it hoping for a fire. The Russians then collided with the drone in an extremely dangerous maneuver that easily could have taken the Russian down with the drone. The real question isn’t how, but why?
Because the Russians have Ukraine stuck in their throats like a bone and can’t dislodge it. Russia is losing this war. They are rehabbing antiques and using their own soldiers as bait. Their goal is to gain for Russia at the expense of Europe. “The price of freedom is eternal vigilance” – Thomas Jefferson. Unless it gets too expensive – Ron DeSantis
This isn’t the first Russian provocation; Russian jets have flown incursions over Estonia and Norway. Putin wants to create an international incident in the hopes of frightening the chicken hawks. Frightening his loyal American Republican back benchers to cry about the cost.
To ignore history and ignore the basis of peace and political stability in Europe for three quarters of a century, all in an effort to save money. Only saving money shouldn’t be our end all be all goal. You use your money to maintain peace and stability. Otherwise, your money might be useless when you finally decide to use it.
“My good friends, for the second time in our history, a British Prime Minister has returned from Germany bringing peace with honour. I believe it is peace for our time…Go home and get a nice quiet sleep.” – Neville Chamberlain
“You have committed every crime under the sun. Where you have been the least resisted there you have been the most brutal. It was you who began the indiscriminate bombing. We will have no truce or parley with you, or the grisly gang who work your wicked will. You do your worst – and we will do our best.” Perhaps it may be our turn soon; perhaps it may be our turn now.” – Winston Churchill
