Showdown at Enthusiasm Gap

By David Glenn Cox

I sure don’t know, and it’s hard to understand their thinking sometimes. When you know going in, it is going to be rough, and it turns out way worse than that. It makes you wonder what they were thinking. The Trump campaign just a week ago claimed a hundred thousand people came to see Trump between the beach and the amusement park. Then they claimed twenty-five hundred were twenty-five thousand. How can we top that? I know! Let’s go someplace and get booed!

This Trump campaign through its inaction and lack of a coherent message is more reliant on its image. It is essential for the campaign to counter Trump’s negative legal troubles with upbeat positive images. The bandwagon approach, “Gosh, everybody in my underground klan cell are all voting for Donald Trump!” The cult is not the problem. The problem is the cult isn’t large enough! Trump needs independent voters and as his appearance before the Libertarians has shown, he’s not likely getting them.

It was a bad visual for the campaign, “Gosh, everybody likes Trump!” BOO! HISS! (Darth Vader music)

Trump does pretty good with a happy positive upbeat low IQ crowd but looked like an assistant principal trying to quiet the assembly in a Middle School lunchroom. “We must work together,” he said. “Combine with us. You have to combine with us.” Gee, why don’t they like us? WE! You and me must work together. YOU! Have to combine with us.

Abandon your hopes and deny all of your principles and become one of us! We command you! Don’t go in there trying to win any votes with your arguments or anything. No, threaten them! Just tell them what time it is and then explain it to them. They’ll respect you for it. Like telling your wife how your mother used to do it.

Out of 900 eligible votes Donald Trump received 6. Whose stupid idea was this? He told the crowd he’d come “to extend a hand of friendship.”This won’t hurt, the checks in the mail, and I just want to be your very good friend. NO SALE! Trump has his cult and about 80% of the Republican Party, but no legs.

The (somewhat) moderate Republican Nikki Haley voters say they won’t vote for Mr. Trump. The (gullible) extremist Libertarian voters also won’t vote for Trump. Hours of arithmetic study in Mrs. Glotfelty’s sixth grade math class assures me Donald Trump is in big trouble.

Pollsters on both sides, publish results showing Trump at even or even ahead. But you can always make polls show whatever you want, but the question is always turnout. Who is more enthusiastic? The Nikki Haley voters or the Libertarian voters? Who loves Donald Trump more? What the voters tell a pollster, and what they’ll get in the pickup truck to go vote about are two different things. Tuesday? That’s meatloaf night!

Was this event the product of “C” list inexperienced staff or was this something the “Boss” thought up on his own? There is a positive aspect of a politician speaking to diverse groups. It shows courage and a willingness to defend his principles. Only Trump has no principles, and the Libertarians do.  They aren’t buying Trump’s “I just want to be your friend” routine.

Trump losing 20% of the vote to Nikki Haley, despite Haley dropping out of the race a month before was serious but quiet. Just cheer about Trump winning and ignore the elephant in the room. But Trump getting booed is loud and vocal, illustrating to one and all that Donald Trump has no legs. Making an example of Donald Trump as a divider in chief.  The moderates don’t like Trump and  the cynics don’t trust him.

As would be expected, Trump became angry. How dare they? Don’t they know who I am?  Trump being unused to having any resistance. “If you want to lose, don’t do that. Keep getting your 3% every four years.” No, you could vote for me! And maybe win for a change! I won’t do anything you’ll like, but at least you’ll win for a change!

The Faux Libertarian candidate RFK JR. attracted 2% of the vote or somewhere around twelve or thirteen votes. But Kennedy is only the comic relief candidate and worm favorite, who nobody really believes is serious about this anyway.  And yet, he draws twice the Trump vote and Trump is supposed to be serious. “Watch (lol) this! I’m gonna vote for RFK!”

Trying to show their strength they exposed their weakness. Trying to expand their big tent, they exposed their diversity. You can’t argue with the Fuhrer, it looks bad to the public on TV. Everybody loves Donald Trump, pay no attention to those guys in the crowd!  Just a few malcontents. What do they know?

What was the goal of this Trump appearance? How will this appearance move the Trump campaign forward? Trump plans a low-budget campaign with fewer appearances. Due to a lack of funding and an abundance of legal responsibilities. Fewer chances for a below average turnout or uncontrolled outbursts. There will be no more campaign appearances like this for Mr. Trump. No more trying to make friends. No more Mr. Nice Guy.

Trump will make only controlled appearances from now on, the bandwagon approach demands it. Sure, everybody loves Donald Trump! Everybody!
