A Crack in the Ice

By David Glenn Cox

I don’t know if you’ve seen it yet. But there is a photo making the rounds. Let me preface the photo by saying I’ve been watching Air Force One since it was a 707 in the 1960s. Never in all my born days have I seen a person through the windows of Air Force One, let alone the President of the United States. But in this amazing new magical photo. Mr. Trump is seated in a window seat (of course) looking at a laptop. Astoundingly, the laptop screen is visible through the next window! And on it was the headline the Kennedy Center destroyed! I call “shenanigans!” Utter nonsense!

This is foreshadowing; this is Mr. Trump’s subtle, subliminal baby talk. “If I don’t get my way! I’ll huff and I’ll puff and I’ll blow the Kennedy Center down!” As I had previously reported, Mr. Trump threw a shitstorm of a baby temper tantrum at the Kennedy Center board, yelling and calling people stupid and obstructionist. All of this because he can’t get his name on the building. It is an insane obsession by an insane man. His crooked mail-in ballot scam was defeated by the Extreme Court, but his tantrum is over the Kennedy Center? Earth to Caligula! Can you hear me, Major Tom?

But his time is growing short. Seven Republicans crossed over to vote for the war powers act resolution. One year ago, that act would have been unthinkable. Congresswoman Maria Salazar (R) FL published a blistering campaign ad saying the obvious. The president’s immigration antics have gone way too far. From a Republican in Floriduh, no less. These Republicans aren’t brave, nor are they outliers. There is mumbling under the stairs, and in quiet out of the way places, as Republicans begin reading the tea leaves.

You might find this difficult to believe, but it’s true. Richard Nixon was once extremely popular. I know it sounds crazy, but it was true. Then, when the dark clouds of Watergate began to form. Republicans defended Nixon with all their hearts. But as time went on, as the case against Nixon grew pallid. Slowly, then like now, a few Republicans began crossing over. Then came the fight over the secret Oval Office tapes. Nixon insisted, like any guilty man would, that the tapes were his personal property. It made Nixon look guilty by fighting so hard to hide the Epstein Files, er, I mean, the Oval Office tapes. Then when an eighteen-minute gap was discovered on the tapes, just as the conversation was getting good. The administration came up with an outrageous theory as to how that gap happened. But the damage had been done. The Republican trickle soon became a flood.

Not that any of these Republicans were seeking truth, justice, or the American way. They were only seeking survival from the coming political shitstorm. Time to get out ahead of the lawnmower, before it mows them all down. Trump’s soap bubble has finally popped. Reality, like the dawn, creeps in through the windows, eventually. Even gullible Trumper humpers understand soaring fuel costs like a hit in the head.

“How many times do you have to get hit over the head until you figure out who’s hitting you?”  – Harry Truman

It’s only human nature. The more popular something is, the more despised it will eventually become, once it has worn out its welcome. George Bush the elder said, “Read my lips. No new taxes, and then he passed new taxes.” Done and done! Turn out the lights; the party is over. But this is where the magic photo becomes relevant. We have an expanding and escalating war in the Middle East. Fuel prices soaring beyond infinity. And coming soon; a fuel supply shortage. A trade war with Canada. Disintegrating relations with Europe and what is Mr. Trump fighting for? Lower gas prices? Better trade relations? Peace in the Middle East? No, he says, “Shut up, ye peasants, fuel prices aren’t so bad.” Tone-deaf! At the height of the Ed Sheeran controversy. Mr. Trump chooses this moment to put on a show by sending Israel container loads of two thousand pound bombs.

Then with the  cavalierness of Marie Antoinette, he yawns and announces he’s ready to restart his bombing campaign of Iran. Ignoring the actual crisis in Saudi Arabia. Jabba the Trump reportedly sent a hundred military advisors to Riyad to scratch their heads and wind their watches. It’s a new world, Columbus, drones, drones, drones! How do you defend lonely pumping stations out in the middle of a stinking desert? Beats me, Vladimir Putin would like to know the answer to that as well.

But in this hour of crisis what does Mr. Trump focus his attention on? Putting his name on the Kennedy Center. Detached from reality and incapable of understanding the importance of certain issues. Mitch McConnell isn’t the only zombie running loose in Washington. Mr. Trump was asked by a brave, young soon to be unemployed reporter about Mr. Trump’s low polling numbers. Trump responded with ”fake news!” Inside of that deteriorating debris of his corrupted cranium Mr. Trump is still as popular as ever! “I’m ready for my close-up now, Mr. DeMille!” How do you like my new wardrobe?

The soaring fuel costs are just the beginning. Trucking lines will soon go bankrupt and airlines too! What is the answer? There isn’t one. The time for safety meetings is over once Humpty Trumpty, has had his great fall. His brand is becoming toxic.

But being the election season; I’m getting a lot of campaign literature in the mail. Juan Ciscomani is so far up Donald Trump’s ass he can smell Trump’s breakfast. He votes with Mr.Trump 100% of the time, but in his campaign literature he now brags about being bipartisan, and willing to cross the aisle to work with Democrats. The biggest lie since, this won’t hurt. During Don old Trump’s first term, they bragged, “Vote Republican! Proudly Republican! I stand with Donald Trump!” But today that word “Republican” is omitted from campaign literature altogether. No more pictures with Mr. Trump and no more, “Proudly endorsed by Donald Trump either.”

And all of the King’s horses and all of the king’s men can’t put Humpty Trumpty back together again any more than they can bring back disco or poodle skirts or repair a soap bubble.

“Momma loves her baby

And Daddy loves you too

And the sea may look warm to you, babe

And the sky may look blue

Ooh-ooh-ooh, baby blue

Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, babe

“If you should go skating

On the thin ice of modern life

Dragging behind you the silent reproach

Of a million tear stained eyes

Don’t be surprised when a crack in the ice

Appears under your feet

You slip out of your depth and out of your mind

With your fear flowing out behind you

As you claw the thin ice”-David Gilmour, Bob Ezra
