The Cringe Effect

By David Glenn Cox

A curious thing happened yesterday on the way to the asylum. Amidst the tumult and turmoil and trepidation caused by dementia, Don’s deal with the Russian devil. The backlash was swift, with Republicans and Democrats alike wetting themselves and weighing in. “Holy Mary mother of God! He did what???”

But alongside the treacherous diesel fuel deal. Dementia Donald made another executive pronouncement. He announced that a deal had been reached between Russia and Ukraine. And under this “deal,” both parties agreed to a moratorium on attacking each other’s energy infrastructure. I thought to myself, that was quick. I wondered why Ukraine would agree to a deal like that when attacking Russia’s energy infrastructure had put the bear on the ropes. I didn’t really give it all that much thought. I am not in on staff meetings or administration email lists.

Then came the news ignored by the sleeping millionaire journalists. There had been no deal. Russia attacked a power station in Kiev, and Ukraine targeted an oil pumping station. Both sides agreed that they didn’t know what arrangement the American geriatric resident was talking about. There was no deal, and what’s more, there had been no talks or even any high-level discussions about a deal. It was all a fantasy, a complete figment of his fractured imagination. A furtive desire pulled from about his rectal regions. Donald had made it all up.

Now, it’s hardly news that Donald lies profusely. (Only when his mouth is open) But what is newsworthy is the changing caliber of Donald’s lies. This isn’t Donald claiming to be a stable genius or acing a cognitive test. (It’s an elephant! No wait!) This is Donald making claims between two sovereign nations at war. A war that Donald had once promised to end in twenty-four hours. It begs the question of where did that idea come from? This wasn’t a simple pronouncement of Donald’s genius; this was something that Donald wanted to happen. And perhaps, if he wished hard enough, in his megalomania, it would come to pass. “It must be so; I have commanded it to be so! That tide should be coming in any second now.”

It was a complete detachment from reality. Like the giant steel mill in Iowa, Mr. Criminal said that it was already under construction. When it was nothing more than a letter of intent. IF the good people of Iowa would gladly chip in 1.5 billion of their tax dollars. And if, they can find a suitable location and if enough potential private investors can be found. Then perhaps, maybe someday, they will build a steel mill in Iowa. If I can get the materials to build a rocket ship in my backyard, then maybe I can fly to the moon someday. It got me to thinking about how recently Donald makes promises that dissipate like smoke in the breeze. Five thousand dollar checks for everyone mentioned once or twice, and then forgotten about. Hundred-dollar checks for seniors mentioned once or twice, and then also quickly forgotten. It appears that Donald can no longer hold on to his own ideas inside of that loose-weave smooth brain of his.

Finally, leading to the question of just how many feet exactly does Donald have in reality? Is there a deal for Russian diesel fuel or not? Or did Donald also excrete that idea from his rectum as well? I don’t mind him puffing the goods a bit during an election campaign. But there are no goods to puff here. He’s totally disconnected from reality and just making it up as he goes along. I imagine Donald’s mechanics and makeup men, his diaper changers and his fluffers must cringe in terror every time he takes to the floor. What might he say next? What are we going to do, if he says X, Y, or Z? What are we going to do if he declares war on France or levies a tariff on the Earth’s oxygen?

Clearly, we are on side B here. The administration has reached its apogee, and it’s all downhill from here. The pressure must be tremendous working for a boss who is a mental hot-air balloon, subject to fits of imagination and flights of fantasy. Little Marco Polio gets called on the carpet because Russia and Ukraine had violated Donald’s imaginary moratorium. “What do you have to say for yourself, Marco? How could you let this happen? Don’t let it happen again!”

Pollster Frank Lund says reports of Republicans dumping millions of dollars into the midterm campaigns are a waste of money. If at first you don’t succeed, throw more money at it! Lund insists that it is already too late, and the Republicans should just save their money and put their wallets away. Uniquely, in this election cycle, there are very few undecided voters. That a slick ad campaign or round-the-clock TV commercials can’t convince voters that they aren’t being beaten to death and hosed by high fuel prices.

The voters know exactly where the high fuel prices are coming from. The voters also know exactly why the prices are so high. They also know who is responsible, and no amount of TV advertising can fix it. Donald goes to Texas again, and still no appearance by Texas Republican Governor Gregg “Bubba” Abbott. Donald goes to Ohio, and no appearance by the sitting Republican Governor Mike DeWine. Sure, why not? A chance to get your picture taken with the President! Everybody wants one of those!

But Lund also addressed the enthusiasm question. “Democrats are more energized to vote.” He’s got a point there. Republicans are demoralized, slowly, silently coming to the quiet realization that Donald Trump is not magic after all. You can hardly expect the Republicans to march down the street whipping themselves in penance and chanting, “We were so wrong, oh, so wrong! Please forgive us! We promise, as God is our witness, to never, ever vote again!” Republican voters were enchanted by Donald and taken in by the pageantry and glorious peasantry, and now they have become disenchanted. We might lose our home and business, but by God, he kept men out of women’s sports!

Don Junior’s ex-fiancé gets caught red-handed trying to shake down donors to pay her American Express bill, and the administration says, “Maybe, maybe!” They are thinking about firing her. Check the calendar, boys, thirty days past September. Election year! Huh, huh? Perhaps the time for thinking about it is over. Maybe if they paid her Amex bill for her, she’d leave on her own. “I’m stepping down to spend more time with my Botox.”

In an ill-fated attempt to garner some positive press. The President defect made a deal with our adversary (and his best buddy) to sell out our friends and allies down the river. Angering Democratic and Republican leaders alike. Only the brave will come to the aid of a sellout. “Holy Mary mother of God! He did what???”

“Men in general judge more by the sense of sight than by the sense of touch, because everyone can see but few can test by feeling. Everyone sees what you seem to be, few know what you really are; and those few do not dare take a stand against the general opinion.” ― Niccolo Machiavelli,

I want to feel like I am watching the Visigoths entering Rome to tear it all down. But unfortunately the Democrats haven’t got the guts of Visigoths. Trump is like a wounded animal, and it needs someone to step in and carry out the mercy-killing of his reputation and administration. But I find myself asking “Who?” Shared on Twitter.

    Best wishes, Pete.

There are times when I wonder if his flunkies are the ones feeding him some of this stuff to keep him “happy” … and then he magnifies and adorns it with “Trumpisms” to make it all sound good. From things I’ve read, he’s been known to thrown a temper tantrum or two … so maybe the underlings are simply protecting their jobs. Maybe?
