If you thought that there was pushback from Donald Trump’s diesel deal with the devil in this country. Imagine the consternation from the Russian perspective. Since the beginning of Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, the Russian people have been fed a steady diet of propaganda explaining that the war in Ukraine is actually a proxy war with NATO and the West. And who was the former lead country in the Western Alliance? The United States. Russia’s war in Ukraine was actually a proxy war with the United States.
So for the average Boris or Natasha to wake up one fine morning only to find that Russia is going to sell diesel fuel to the United States is confusing, to say the least. Ukraine has knocked out fifty percent of Russia’s oil refining capacity. Russians sleep in their cars, and sit in miles-long queues just for the privilege of buying twenty liters of fuel (five gallons) makes it beyond astounding. The United States is their sworn enemy. And now they are being told we’re going to sell the US our precious, shortage-plagued fuel? Anger is an understatement.
Imagine running short of water only to find that your leader has sold half of it for something. Something intangible, something that does the general public apparently no good at all. What did Vladimir Putin gain in this strange, distressed transaction? King Donald the Worst announces an arbitrary ceasefire on energy infrastructure. Was that part of the deal? Then out of the blue, Ukraine’s Starlink satellite connection suddenly shut off for moving targets. Does the deal become a bit more obvious to you yet? Suddenly, Ukraine no longer has advance warning of incoming Russian missiles. Does the deal become still more obvious?
Now, there is a word, but I hesitate to use it, because once it’s used the word makes everything sound hyperbolic. But I am at a loss to think of a suitable replacement. Seditious, perhaps? It’s a word used to describe a member of your own government or tribe who actively works against the public good of your collective. Under patriotic, maybe? Or suspiciously overly- friendly with our adversaries? Perhaps even to the point of personally profiting, while causing suffering and death among your own friends and allies. What is that word that I’m looking for?
One who would sell out their allies for personal gain? Republicans and Democrats alike are both furious about the situation in this country. I wonder why? Don’t they understand that the extra three-day supply of Russian diesel fuel every month might be expected to bring down prices anywhere from a nickel to twenty cents a gallon? Don’t they want lower fuel prices? Why then should they care where it comes from? Why are they so angry about this? Is there something more to it that they can’t say publicly? It’s that word again, isn’t it? And I suspect these Republicans fear using it publicly, as much or more than I do.
Despite King Donald’s royal proclamation, Russia attacks Ukrainian energy infrastructure as King Donald says that Ukraine should remove its lawfully elected leader from office. Gee, where have I heard that before? Oh, I remember now! That’s exactly what Vladimir Putin likes to say. He says that often. But when Russia strikes Ukrainian infrastructure in violation of His Majesty’s royal proclamation, King Donald the Worst, stands mute, and says nothing. What is that word I’m thinking of? Something in connection with surrendering West Point to the British. It’s a very serious word, not to be used capriciously. If ever convicted of this word, they can line you up against a wall and shoot you, and maybe even livestream it on the Internet in medieval countries.
If Democrats gain control of the House and the Senate in the midterms, it is expected that they will try to impeach King Donald. And my spidey sense tells me I know what one of the charges will be. I know why the Republican leadership is so upset over this closet-diesel deal. They too can read the tea leaves and see the potential future. A future where they could be forced into a situation of voting for impeachment because of that word. Placed into a situation so egregious that they would have no other choice but to vote for impeachment. Like the 1919 Chicago Black Sox, the stain will splash upon them all!
Meanwhile, the mute, mutant millionaire media announce the deal with calm and aplomb. “Our exhausted ruler is making deals to trade with the enemy! Ain’t that great? Ain’t that good? Why, sure it is! Why it happens all the time! Just smile and sing “trala, trala, la and don’t think about nothing! 2 + 2 = 5, Winston. Never mind what it looks like, and don’t even consider for a minute what it smells like. Why should you care as long as you save those nickels, Winston? Why should you care if our faithless ruler puts his thumb on the scale and our friends die because of it?
Why should our allies ever buy any military hardware from this country ever again when a careless remark about the King’s wardrobe could shut off the spares pipeline? Or maybe, if our exhaustive leader gets a better offer, he might shut it off, anyway. Overnight without saying a word, your ally is now working with your enemy. Not publicly, of course, but surreptitiously. On its face, nothing has changed, except that word is being used more often in private now by Republican politicians who understand its gravity. But it can’t be a high crime or misdemeanor if the media refuses to mention it. It’s only turning on our allies. You’re saving money, and it’s only a little treason. Now, would Donald Trump ever do a thing like that?
The President defect brought out his new spokesmodel Katie Zacharia. Straight from her job as a blonde propagandist on a second-rate ersatz OX news channel. She has all of the right qualifications. She’s blonde and young, and she’s an attorney too! Well, she says she’s an attorney, but there is no record of her ever taking the bar exam. Until you pass the bar exam you’re just a law school graduate, not an attorney. (See: Jim Jordan. He could be an attorney, if he wanted to be, but he just doesn’t want to. He went to law school on a lark, with no intention of ever practicing law.) As for Zacharia, talk about your tough first day on the job!
Something tells me she’s a short timer and another Anthony Scaramouche. She has the ability to read from a teleprompter which is somewhat different from answering live questions. Plus, there is the Natalie Harp connection to consider. (Someone please remove all the sharp knives from the break room.) The aging, ailing orange ape-man is in decline. His powers sometimes elude him, and all he has left to fall back on is his avarice. Or as Winston Churchill might say, he is a wolf in wolf’s clothing.
