Things That must Never Be Lost

By David Glenn Cox

For the first time since 1939, the two leading dictatorships in the world have reached accommodation. In this country, the issue is framed through the lens of diesel fuel. But in Europe, the issue is seen as an existential threat. European leaders now openly question NATO, without the United States. They begin to question ALL American technology. In light of the Trump Junta’s slowing down of Starlink/Starshield in Ukraine. The United States can no longer be trusted as an ally. Elon Musk should invest in a place beyond the reach of international law. Someplace safe, like Dubai.

Dictatorships are created and never born naturally. In 1933, Hitler conned the Reichstag into passing the Enabling Acts, giving Hitler full control of the government and making him Fuhrer. The US Congress, despite overwhelming evidence, chose to protect Donald Trump rather than to prosecute him. In effect, telling him there were no longer any controls on him. He was guilty, but the Republican Party had refused to prosecute. What message did that send to Donald? No one will stop you now, no matter what!

The Congress passed sanctions on Russia, and with the wave of his mighty hand, the great dictator eliminated them. The dictator builds a ballroom. He didn’t ask permission, he just broke ground and began construction. No limits. If he wants to remodel a public golf course, he just begins cutting down trees. If he tires of his old wife, he just replaces her with a new one. Morality? More, more what? The dictator attacks a sovereign country and arrests its leader. Lee, lee, legality? Joseph Stalin cashiered two-thirds of his military leadership because he questioned their loyalty. Pete Hogsbreath cashiers two-thirds of the admirals and generals in the Pentagon for the same reason. Control. Dictators want full control.

Stories have circulated that Vladimir Putin would pay a king’s ransom for American help with Ukraine. As European news agencies carry banner headlines. “Trump has gone over to Putin for good!” We are in effect a rogue nation. Like Iran or North Korea, our only allies are other dictators and despots. But the orange Lucifer knows his days are numbered. “The United States in its righteous might will have the enviable victory, so help us God!”– Franklin Roosevelt, December 8, 1941.

The tallies for early voting for Republicans are catastrophic! Almost unimaginable, as voting numbers in Georgia are five times the last midterm election. People are lined up out the door two weeks before Election Day. In Ohio, the totals are three times normal. It is estimated by current trends this midterm election will surpass the Presidential election totals of 2024. That has never happened before. In North Carolina, it’s four times normal. In North Carolina, where voters must declare a party affiliation. Democrats lead Republicans by almost two to one in early voting. The Cook Political report recently changed forecasts from solid Republican to leans Republican for races in Montana, Nebraska, Kansas and Iowa.

In Tennessee, they are calling Marsha Blackburn MIA Marsha. She sends out her surrogates to speak for her. In Texas, Gregg “Bubba” Abbott campaigns quietly among private Republican fundraisers. Handlers have learned that the best way to handle Ken Paxton’s campaign is to keep a low profile. Every time Ken Paxton speaks, James Talarico’s polling numbers jump. Every time Paxton is speaking in public, he must answer questions about his scandal-plagued past. These are “Hide and Seek” campaigns. Republicans who hide while seeking office. They know that they have shit on their shoes, and it’s best not to come around and stink up the room.

The loss of the House of Representin by Republicans is already a given. The loss of the Senate is a distinct possibility. The issue on day one: the impeachment and removal of Donald John Trump from office. Depending on how the chips fall, conviction of high crimes and misdemeanors and his removal from office are distinct and serious possibilities. I lived through the 60s and the Vietnam War, and the anger and public outrage now are worse now than back then. Everyone from the farmer to the cop on the beat is pissed off. Prosperity for working people has been elusive for more than twenty years. And there is a lesson in that for Democrats. Focusing on social issues is swell, but when the ship is sinking, you’ve got to fix the leaks before planning the dinner menu.

On November 3rd, the clock resets, and a new race begins for 2028. The Democrats must focus on economic populism to reassure voters they made the correct choice this time around. If successful, I call it the “Hill Bully Eulogy.” (I’ve been waiting for a month to use that line.) In the future, JD Vance will be working with Katie Zacharia. Both with bright futures in the college of perpetual obscurity.

The removal of Donald John Trump from office will be like a great weight lifted off our shoulders. Like the clear dawn after a dark and stormy night. The storm is over, and a new day begins to repair the damage and put our house in order. To put food on the table and opportunity within reach.

“More important, a host of unemployed citizens face the grim problem of existence, and an equally great number toil with little return. Only a foolish optimist can deny the dark realities of the moment.

Yet our distress comes from no failure of substance. We are stricken by no plague of locusts. Compared with the perils which our forefathers conquered because they believed and were not afraid, we have still much to be thankful for. Nature still offers her bounty and human efforts have multiplied it. Plenty is at our doorstep, but a generous use of it languishes in the very sight of the supply. Primarily this is because the rulers of the exchange of mankind’s goods have failed, through their own stubbornness and their own incompetence, have admitted their failure, and abdicated. Practices of the unscrupulous money changers stand indicted in the court of public opinion, rejected by the hearts and minds of men.” – Franklin Roosevelt

We cannot go back to the old ways of corporate Democrats feeding at the same trough alongside Republicans. We cannot put new wine into old skins. Democrats must help the people to survive or lose them entirely. This is a chance which comes along perhaps only once in a lifetime, A chance to rebalance the scales. A chance to remember what the job of government is really all about.

History will remember this era the same we think of Nazi Germany today. A madman seized control of a nation and was enabled by those seeking to steal themselves rich. Like denazification after the war, we will need detrumpification. A house cleaning and a truth and reconciliation committee to determine and separate the ringleaders from the simple dupes. No one should think that this will be easy or painless. But the opportunity stands golden when compared with the dung heap we are forced to live with now.

“For there is nothing mysterious about the foundations of a healthy and strong democracy. The basic things expected by our people of their political and economic systems are simple. They are:

Equality of opportunity for youth and for others.

Jobs for those who can work.

Security for those who need it.

The ending of special privilege for the few.

The preservation of civil liberties for all.

The enjoyment . . . the enjoyment of the fruits of scientific progress in a wider and constantly rising standard of living.

These are the simple, the basic things that must never be lost sight of in the turmoil and unbelievable complexity of our modern world. The inner and abiding strength of our economic and political systems is dependent upon the degree to which they fulfill these expectations” – Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

Everything seems very relaxed, given the news that there is about to be a landslide vote against Republicans and Trump will more or less be finished. I’m questioning how they can be so calm in the face of that, and actually rub the noses of America and the world in it by doing deals with Russia?

Perhaps it is because they intend to declare the election results rigged and fake? Then impose martial law and some kind of curfew, with National Guard units deployed on the streets? Perhaps? Who knows?

Best wishes, Pete. (Shared on Twitter)

I HOPE your last thought does not come to pass, BUT … with all that has happened since Trump came into power? What was once thought was nigh impossible has now because a highly potential reality. **Shiver**
