It is really a tale of two campaigns. The other day, I heard a story, but I haven’t heard it corroborated. But as things developed, I began to understand why the story, true or not, was unneeded. When things are going right, there is no need to bring such stories to the fore. In it, Ken Paxton was accused of making a sweetheart deal for a donor accused of child molestation. It’s almost like it’s a requirement of being a rich Republican, a la Jeffrey Epstein these days.
A new NBC poll corroborates earlier polling in Houston, Texas. Talarico 58% Paxton 36%. But it’s even worse for Paxton than that. Talarico also leads in Austin, San Antonio and Dallas- Fort Worth. Winning campaigns don’t need hit pieces. I watched a Paxton rally attended by maybe two hundred in a small room where the candidate’s message was, “We can’t let them win!” Sounds a bit desperate, doesn’t it? A Talarico rally last night had three times the attendance, and twice the enthusiasm. Where the candidate asked for every vote for…Texas.
The voter turnout has been massive nationwide, and traditionally when the turnout is high, Democrats win. That’s why Republicans work so diligently to disenfranchise voters. But it’s no secret why the turnout has been so large. The media won’t say it, but I will. The American people are fed up and sick and god damned tired of the antics of Donald John Trump.
The Trump regime is in full panic mode. Five thousand dollar checks to vote Republican. One hundred dollars for seniors. Eight billion dollars to subsidize farmer’s diesel fuel bills. What about us who don’t till the soil? Mr. Trump Has even brought out his wife by the hour to read cue cards in the former rose garden for a new women’s health initiative. “Dis ting vill help all womans.” Like the little Dutch boy trying to plug the holes in the dike. But it’s too little, too late, and Americans aren’t buying it. It’s Richard Nixon time! When the public has finally heard enough.
On the other end of the spectrum is Vivek Ramaswamy. Locked in a close race in Ohio with Democrat Amy Acton, Ramaswamy issues a hit piece featuring Acton’s estranged and aged, bitter mother. Acton was removed from the home at age twelve after accusations of molestation by her stepfather. The mother chose to stay with the stepfather fifty years ago, and hence still believes her daughter was lying. I can’t imagine any political strategist worth their salt thinking that this was a good idea unless it was clear, they were headed for defeat. The ad has backfired spectacularly and Ramaswamy is left back peddling and running for his life.
Like Ken Paxton, Ramaswamy is a terrible candidate. In a racist and xenophobic political party selling a candidate named Vivek Ramaswamy is a tough go. In my six years of living in Ohio, I heard the “N” word used more there than in my native Alabama. But Ramaswamy was Trump’s pick just like Ken Paxton was. Strike two. Ramaswamy campaigns in a private jet because Republicans have money to burn, and by god they are burning it. “Hi, I just flew in on my private jet because I’m a man of the people! I understand your worries and high fuel cost anxieties. Have you any idea how much it costs to fill bitch up with jet fuel?” It’s Richard Nixon time. When everything which once worked no longer works.
But more importantly, is the dark case of little Marco Pollo. He’s been visiting Uzbekistan. Hammering out all of the pressing and important agreements with the Uzbeks. Why is little Marco in Uzbekistan again? (See: Geography.) Uzbekistan is the closest little Marco dare go near to Moscow. So far out of the public eye as to not be obvious. There is no reason to visit Uzbekistan, except to meet with Russians on the QT.
The plan goes like this: Donald Trump wants Vladimir Putin to call a summit of the world’s three great dictators. Putin, Trump and China’s XI. But it’s important that it looks like it’s all Putin’s idea, and not Trump’s. (Send little Marco. He’s not doing anything important.) Then, the three great dictators can hold a summit and divvy up the world. The three great dictators can dictate Ukraine’s surrender. You can tell this was one of Trump’s schemes, because it is so inept and misguided.
In its current condition, Russia is nearly a vassal state of China. The more that Vladimir Putin struggles, the better negotiations go for China. Xi has absolutely no reason whatsoever to want to rescue Vladimir Putin from the fire. Xi knows, just like you and I know, that Trump’s days are numbered. It’s Richard Nixon time! China uses soft power. They aren’t bellicose and don’t pound their fists on the desk. They work behind the scenes quietly. If China were to get involved in Trump’s hair brained scheme, what does China win? Except for the enmity of the Western World lasting far longer than Donald Trump’s favor. China wins nothing and works against its own self-interest. China knows that Donald Trump is but a temporary situation. Close your eyes, and soon he’ll be gone.
Why is the United Kingdom sending fighter jets to protect Saudi Arabia? Because Trump won’t. You see an American power vacuum. “Obsessed with the power of France, he failed to see the rise of Spain.” Donald is too busy with Russia to protect our allies. Too obsessed with his own schemes to bother with anything but his own self-interest. It is a disastrous plan as Trump is now the target of his fellow Republicans. For a President on the cusp of impeachment, that is unwise.
Come November 3rd, Donald Trump becomes not a lame duck, but a ruptured duck. He is hated by all but the few remaining Maga morons. (22%) The turnout shows Democrats and independent voters marching to the polls in droves. While Republican voters, not so much. You can’t honestly expect them to parade down main street chanting, “We were so wrong! We were so wrong! You were so right! You were so right!” We have a candidate here in Arizona, putting up signs saying that her opponent favors men in women’s sports, and favors Transgenders.
Really? That’s all you’ve got in dire economic circumstances? Record high fuel costs and rising inflation? That’s the hill you choose to die on? Never mind losing your job or what am I going to do if I’m elected, Hey! Look at her! Another Republican offers in a TV ad where he was voted most likely to vote against his own party. That’s how I knew he was a Republican. “I’m not with those guys! I vote against them every chance I get! Leading to the question: Then why are you still in their party if you dislike them all so much?
The spell is broken. The handsome Prince turns out is actually a toad, after all. In the early days of Watergate, Republicans rallied around Richard Nixon and supported him. But as time went on Nixon’s innocence became more and more farfetched, Nixon became a pariah, and every Republican running for office paid the price for it. Every story coming out of the White House just made Nixon look worse. And Republican supporters and non-supporters alike paid the price equally on election day. Nixon had poisoned the Republican well, just as Donald Trump has poisoned the Republican well. It’s Richard Nixon time!
“Darkness at the break of noon
Shadows even the silver spoon
The handmade blade, the child’s balloon
Eclipses both the sun and moon
To understand you know too soon
There is no sense in trying.
***
Pointed threats they bluff with scorn
Suicide remarks are torn
From the fools gold mouthpiece, the hollow horn
Plays wasted words, proves to warn
That he not busy being born
Is busy dying” – Bob Dylan (As if you didn’t know that already)
